Our Mission

The Financial Literacy Institute serve as a bridge connecting communities to resources. We believe creating a learning environment that provides support to our citizens to positively impact communities. Our Institute is committed to helping citizen strive for excellence and achieve success on their life journey. How will we help our surrounding communities achieve these goals? Our Institute will provide financial literacy teachings that educate clients with understanding financial behavior, with varies financial stability factors for a healthy financial well-being.
Our Mission: To educate communities by equipping them with financial literacy teachings, college readiness skills, and workforce development tools, to impact their overall socio-economic status.
Our Vision: To see all communities flourishing and regaining control of their financial well-being.

Our Staff

Angela Howze

Founder and CEO

Angela Howze brings more than 12 years of experience in business and community development to her role as Founder and CEO of the Angela Howze, Student Loan Expert, LLC and Financial Literacy Institute, Inc), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides networking opportunities, education, resources and financial literacy support to leaders who are committed to serving communities.

Prior to launching the FLII, Angela Howze, Student Loan Expert LLC, a consulting company that assists student loan borrowers by sharing techniques and strategies which improve their financial health. Angela studied Economic Workforce Development at the University of Southern Mississippi. During her studies, Angela grew passionate about student loan debt and its impact on borrower’s lack of economic growth. As a result, she became certified by the Financial Educators Council as a Financial Literacy Instructor.

Sonya Rozier


My name is Sonya Rozier. I have a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in History. I went to Georgia College and State University. I started with Wal-Mart retail stores when I was 16. My plans were to work at Walmart temporarily and to provide funds to pay my car insurance, but 24 years later I am still employed at Wal-Mart.

My desire to move up with company, and strong work ethic allowed me to excel within the company. I started out as a Cashier, and later, moved to a Department Manager role. My next role with the company was a Support Manager and then Assistant Manager.

I have worked in various stores in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. I currently work in Pooler Georgia, and my current responsibility is managing the consumables, fresh, and grocery operations. Lastly, I take pride in leading my team through strong team building skills and inspiring others to do their best.

Kinina Mallett

Business Coordinator

Kinina Mallett is the President of PYCES ITS HEALTHCARE, LLC where she coordinates, leads, trains and staffs Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nurse Assistants to facilities who need them due to staffing shortages.

Before becoming a Nurse Staffing Business Owner, Kinina spent 21 years as a nurse for Hospitals and Travel Agencies. She is among one of the most distinguished in her field. Kinina is a mentor and enjoys spending time with her family and developing community empowerment. A Registered Nurse from Kosciusko, MS. Married mother of 3 and retired Veteran from U.S. Army of 12 years. I am ready to serve.

Deirdra Johnson

STEM – Human Resource

Deirdra Johnson is a native of Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree from Jackson State University in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics. Deirdra recently graduated from George Mason University with a MBA. Deirdra is currently an active duty U.S. Army officer who has served in the military for 10 years. She has held several leadership positions starting from platoon leader to company command to Small Group Instructor and Division Chief of the U.S.

Army CBRN Basic Officer Leadership Course. Deirdra is a member of a several leadership and business organizations to include MBASA, NBMBAA, and the ROCKS Inc. She has received several academic and military awards throughout her career to include graduating Cum Laude and military awards such as Instructor of the Quarter and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. Deirdra currently resides in South Korea. She is married to her husband; Daniel and they have four children together.

Jerry Howze


My career covers 37 years at 3M Company holding several positions within the company, most of which in the Chemical field. However, during my early years there I held position as an Environmental Assistant following environmental regulations in Air, Water, Solid and Hazardous Waste as it effects how products are manufactured and sold. The following are other responsibilities I held:

Emission Control Monitoring
Hazardous Waste Management
Transportation Coordinator
1) Packaging
2) Labeling
3) Transportation of Hazardous to US and International Companies

Leandra Young

Board Member

Leandra Young is the Quality Engineering Supervisor at Corning Optical Communications – Hickory Manufacturing and Technology Center, where she supports the Quality Management System, along with her team of quality engineers and technicians. Leandra joined Corning Life Sciences – Oneonta in 2014 as a Quality Engineer, supporting efforts such as project team management, customer complaint activities, quality metric analysis and validation support.

Before joining Corning, Leandra worked in various positions at Verizon Domestic Telecom – NY/NJ (supporting outside plant engineering, installation & repair and switch complex translations) and as a chemical process engineer at Interface Solutions and CeramTec in upstate NY.

Leandra holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s and MBA in Technology Management from Stevens Institute of Technology.
